We know what an object should do.
That is where the work begins.
Serra Vano is a fictional design house with a serious interest in the everyday. We take objects so familiar that their use feels inevitable, and introduce one carefully considered disagreement.
A cake server offers an outline in place of support. A tea infuser waits above the water. A mirror keeps your face to itself. The object remains recognizable, the materials desirable, the intention exact. Only the expected outcome has changed.
The obstacle is not decoration. It is the design.
Begin with
the familiar.
The ritual should be understood before the contradiction is noticed.
Change
one thing.
An axis, an opening, a material. The smallest intervention with the clearest consequence.
Let the object
make its case.
Quiet forms. Considered surfaces. No explanation required to feel that something is wrong.

Created by Cameron McAinsh, Serra Vano is an independent conceptual portfolio, not a manufacturer or shop. Its collections bring together objects with shared functional obstructions, from missing contact and uncertain movement to awkward gestures and inaccessible details. All current still images are AI-assisted visualizations exploring form, materials and deliberately frustrated use; they are proposals, not tested physical products.
The project takes inspiration from Katerina Kamprani’s The Uncomfortable ↗ and its exploration of dysfunctional everyday objects. Serra Vano is not affiliated with or endorsed by that project.
